Higher, closer to Mr.Fuji

Fuji five lakes (富士五湖) is an area at the foot of Mr.Fuji and it contains lakes Kawaguchi, Yamanaka, Shōji, Sai, Motosu and their surroundings. Today I was lucky to visit the biggest and most famous one - Lake Kawaguchi. The weather was treating me this time and I was unsure whether I will be able to see Mr.Fuji in its whole tremendous beauty. Well... you can see the result above 🙃🙂

1. Mr.Fuji panoramic ropeway

I wanted to try this even before I came to Japan! And finally, I got a chance! You can take round trip tickets or one-way ticket. A second option is a good option for those who prefer to enjoy hiking and enjoy the beautiful park while going down to the bottom. While you getting higher on the ropeway you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Kawaguchi.

It’s remarkable that you can board pets like cats and dogs with you!! I was disappointed that we were not able to see Mr.Fuji from the board but the view from the observation post on the top compensated everything!!!

The only disadvantage of this ropeway is that it is always busy with tourists and the board is full of people. So basically if you didn’t manage to stand next to the window you won’t be able to see anything 😢

2. Usagi Shrine (うさぎ神社)

On the top there is a cute Usagi Shrine (うさぎ神社).

Now there are no rabbits here on the hilltop, but the legend says that long ago there were lots of them. Moreover, the rabbits were kind to local people and helped them, for example, to find food in the forest or somehow else. That is why they built a shrine here to express gratitude to rabbits.

The rabbit on the right side is sleeping and hiding his face. It is believed that if you touch his head you will become a smart person!

The rabbit on the left side is looking at Mr.Fuji, so if you touch his legs your own legs will become strong!!!

3. Raccoon cafe (たぬき茶屋)

Right next to Usagi Shrine you can visit the cafe called たぬき茶屋.

Honestly, I missed the story about how rabbits and raccoons are related but you can read the story as it’s written on wooden tablets over there.

They serve delicious dango in the cafe. But you can also try ice cream, snacks and meet there. Enjoy your meal sitting outside on a bench and looking at Mr.Fuji!
